flywoman: (House/Wilson)
[personal profile] flywoman
So I've been looking around for other House/Bones crossovers just to kind of gauge what's out there already, and I found this page on Polyfandom Recs, and in case any of you are BSG fans, or even just not BSG phobes, it is my great pleasure to recommend this fic by [livejournal.com profile] parrotfic . It's House/Wilson after the destruction of the Colonies, and it's bleak and funny and sad and hot and totally in character. And best of all, there's more, although I haven't gotten to the "more" quite yet.

I had to click on this to find out what BSG was. I really should watch more telly! It kinda looks grim, but I'll have a read during the week.
My rec - if you don't mind me butting in here - is stormseller's rather wonderful 'Amends'.
Can't do the linky thing, sorry. Also, sorry for hijacking your post - my brother moved in last night, with a suspiciously heavy bag for 'just a few days' and I'm going mad!!

I really only have room for one (at most two) shows in my life at a time, but BSG kept me occupied in the years before I discovered House, and with the exception of maybe a couple of stinkers, had me riveted for every episode. Lots of character-driven drama and forbidden 'ships and food for philosophizing. It is kind of grim, definitely. But there's a hopeful note as well. It is one long extended and complicated plot, though, so it's pretty critical to start at the beginning and watch in order.

Update: I just read the second chapter of parrotfic's series, and am commenting now; it's even better than the first.

No problem at all, thank you for including your rec! I did actually start reading "Amends" when stormseller posted a recent chapter, and I remember thinking, damn, this is good, and I should go back and read the rest, and then I got distracted or something. And, um, best of luck with your brother!

The brother. Yeah. Sigh. Sorry.
Began reading this fic. Wondered why I hadn't seen it on H_W, but then saw how old it was. Sometimes the oldies are the besties! How have I never seen even one ep of BSG?

Myself, I never watch shows randomly, so it takes someone whose tastes I respect to basically bludgeon me into starting, and then I get hooked and watch the whole series straight through. That's what happened with House - my RL beta just handed me the first season DVDs and ordered me to try them. And I've done the same for a lot of folks with my favorite shows.

Somewhat off topic, have you ever seen Firefly? Because that's another series that could easily fly under one's radar but is just extremely enjoyable and quirky and funny and dark and has inspired no end of fanaticism.

If I want really, really good fic, I tend to start right at the beginning of H_W (yay calendar feature) and that does me right ;)

No, have never seen Firefly either - really, apart from House, I just watch Brit soaps, docs, strange comedies (although have huge soft spots for the more conventional The Office, Frasier, Two and a Half Men and Modern Family) and The Apprentice. Trying to think of what I used to watch - Buffy, Angel (until the Cordelia pregnant arc) and Law and Order CI. The last was the one that intoduced me to 'fandom', although it's much bigger on FF than LJ. Think that's it really - although the lovely doctorpancakes has recently got me into the very short series of 'Nathan Barley'.

Ah, well, Firefly is Joss Whedon's baby too, and actually was good right from the get-go. I was also a huge Buffy fan and wrote a lot of fic for that, but never felt the need to write Angel, and the Cordelia pregnant arc left me cold as well, and then there was Connor, and just... ugh.

Oh yes - I went through and read almost everything that thedeadparrot had written about House and/or Sherlock, including those crossovers. Those fic are like the only crossover I've really managed to get into; a combination of being so perfect in themselves, and not needing to know anything about BSG, and perfect House/Wilson, and just - yeah. It pleases me greatly to see someone rec them :)
