Fic meme!

Ganked this from [livejournal.com profile] footballslash. It's supposed to reflect football slash fics written this year, but I'm a gonna list fics I wrote in any fandom, any year, and you should feel free to do the same.

My favorite story: Ugh. Which of my children do I love the most? I'll list one for each fandom. The X-Files: Silent Night (Dana Scully/Fox Mulder). Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Salvaged (Buffy/Spike). House M.D.: Being There (Greg House & James Wilson). The West Wing: Coming to Consensus (Sam Seaborn/Josh Lyman). Football rpf: Never a Bride (Xavi Hernandez/Iker Casillas).
My best story: Again, one for each fandom. The X-Files: Written on the Body (Dana Scully/Fox Mulder). Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willpower (Willow Rosenberg & Spike). House M.D.: Regarding House (Greg House/James Wilson). The West Wing: Sufficient Unto the Day (Sam Seaborn and Toby Ziegler, Sam Seaborn/Josh Lyman). Football rpf: Catch a Falling Star (Xavi Hernandez/Fernando Torres, Xavi Hernandez/Iker Casillas).
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: "Catch a Falling Star," definitely. I worked so hard on this and loved it so much and treasured every comment I received... but there weren't very many.
Most fun story to write: Maybe Precautionary Measures (House M.D./Bones crossover, gen) because it was really fun to play the characters against each other and also to spend so much time brainstorming with my real life beta.
Hardest story to write: I guess that would have to be "Elastic Collisions" (The X-Files, Dana Scully/Jack Willis), seeing as how I was never able to finish it. Runners-up include "Catch a Falling Star," Snowed (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Faith/Buffy), and Mute Persuasion (The X-Files, Dana Scully/Fox Mulder) all of which got stuck for *months* at some point.
"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story: Hahaha, probably Going Quietly (House M.D., Wilson/Cuddy). Although my readers might say Bad Influence (House M.D., Greg House/James Wilson UST, James Wilson/Bonnie, James Wilson/OFC)
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: They almost all do, at least a little bit. I'll say one is the loneliest number (Football rpf, Cristiano Ronaldo/Lionel Messi) since it really helped me to empathize more with CR7, but The Spender Defense (The X-Files, Jeffrey Spender POV) is a close second.
Biggest disappointment: Erm. Maybe Talisman (The West Wing, Sam Seaborn/Josh Lyman unrequited). I liked the idea but never felt fully satisfied with the execution.
Biggest surprise: Uh... probably The Mourinho-Guardiola Collision (Football rpf/The Big Bang Theory crossover, Pep Guardiola/Jose Mourinho). It was a wacky idea I came up with for [livejournal.com profile] karaokegal's Come As You're Not challenge, and it turned out much better than I could have hoped.
Most unintentionally telling story: Many of my fics are very telling, but it's usually deliberate. I guess Under My Skin (The X-Files, Dana Scully/Ed Jerse), since it took a reader's response to clue me in.
Sexiest story: Het: "Under My Skin." M/M: According to my readers, it's a toss-up between Five Times Greg House Found James Wilson Irresistible (House M.D., Greg House/James Wilson) and Adelantando (Football rpf, David Villa/Lionel Messi). F/F: the Hungry Universe series, which got better with each installment (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Faith/Buffy).

Hey I love "Catch a Falling Star" to death! When I like a story so much, I usually re-read them before I comment and I haven't had the time. It's still open in my iPad browser :p Just so you know some comments take a while to come.

Oh, hey :). I know we haven't seen much of you lately! Looking forward to your feedback when you have the time.

Great stuff, you've written a lot. :)

Never the bride is what made me fall in love with your writing (and you) so yes will always be special. I've read it again since and notice new things.
Catch a falling star is wonderful, needs more love, but yeah it's such a 'diffrent' pairing and feel.

Pep/Mou was a revelation and I loved it.
Had my own CR empathy epiphany and that was weird, not sure how I feel about it.

I saw that meme and wanted to do it, but then realised I haven't actually posted anything. So you'll probably get spammed soon.

I've written a lot, yeah... of course, I started (with these fandoms) in 1998!

Never a Bride is like that first child that you half-ruin because you have no idea what to do with it but love best forever afterwards. Or something like that. When I read it now, I think, I could have done this better, but it made me fall in love with Xavi and it will always be very special to me.

Catch a Falling Star, continuing the analogy, is the second child with whom I did a much better job - I felt like I'd matured a lot in the meantime - but the feelings were less intense. I do wish that more people would give it a chance.

There is some fantastic Pep/Mou out there; my story doesn't even deserve to be mentioned alongside some of them. I just love the idea of my favorite football players as award-winning physicists :D.

And yeah, CR empathy is weird... he inspires such a strange mix of feelings in me, lol. And then, making Messi the jerk, that was interesting too.

[identity profile] sageharper.livejournal.com 2013-01-29 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
My first fandom was from when I was 7, but didn't write for it then (was the pre-internet dark ages). Could try to dig out my earliest stuff but it would be too embarassing.

lol as a first-born myself then I don't mind that analogy. Xavi is very easy to love (and write, but probably difficult to write well). Already did love him then, so for me it was Iker, and the relationship.

It was great seeing it unfold, you did really well. I like trying new pairings but yes people seem to have their niches.

I've never read it, or at least not looked for it. There is obviously a lot that can be covered with their relationship in any capacity. But I'm generally just kind of scared/squicked by Mou. Any recs?
It is a good idea, works even when you know nothing of the subject matter.

Me too overall, when he's playing it's quite clear cut but rest of the time not so much.
Well yes Messi must have flaws, but it's not something you see much of.

I am doing this meme too, after a fashion; but am actually going to have to post all these fics (they are done, just kind of forgot them or was too shy to post). So it's been interesting, looking back through and dusting them off.

Hahaha, my first was when I was 8, and I wrote for it, but of course couldn't post it since the printing press had barely been invented at that point.

Oh yes, I had no idea how much Iker/Xavi made sense until I started writing this fic, lol.

This is the fic that got me past my fear and loathing and made me learn to love the (fictional) Mou: As Far As You and Me Go by [livejournal.com profile] distira

Messi just has quieter flaws ;).

Yay, glad to have provided a quick kick in the arse then!

[identity profile] sageharper.livejournal.com 2013-01-29 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
lol

My own epiphany came third of the way through writing a xavilla, not remotley awakward then.

Thanks, will check that out. Can live with tolerating fictional Mou.

He does, makes him quite interesting.

It was sorely needed, so thank you. :)

Hahaha, poor Xavilla. I like that pairing too, but it just can't compare to the star-crossed childhood sweetheart scenario of Xaviker.

[identity profile] sageharper.livejournal.com 2013-01-29 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly, xaviker just has everything.
I aqm going to post the xavilla fic though just for posterity and that I think it's quite good.
Do still like to read a good xavilla fic, just can't write it myself.

Wow, great meme!

I'm sorry I don't read football fics. If I were going to, they'd be yours and Jezzie's. I trust you already know how much I love your writing, and it's a special treat to see new WW fics.

[identity profile] flywoman.livejournal.com 2013-01-28 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, no apologies necessary (jezziejay writes wrestling and hockey, are either of those up your alley?). Thanks for the kind words :).

[identity profile] jezziejay.livejournal.com 2013-01-28 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my! I'd forgotten about Being There...really enjoyed re-reading it just now. And Precautionary Measures - that was the first cross-over fic that I read and enjoyed. Also loved the pep/Mou/BBT fic.

CaFS has a special place in my heart, too.

Sheesh...what have you written that I don't love??
ext_471285: (Default)

[identity profile] flywoman.livejournal.com 2013-01-28 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that Being There isn't for everyone, but it was one of those fics written to make sense of canon and it holds a special place in my heart. And Precautionary Measures is still my most popular fic ever, can you believe it? Must be a real dearth of House/Bones crossovers out there. And Pep/Mou <3333. And thanks SO MUCH for the encouragement as I was struggling to finish CaFS.

Aw, shucks. I've certainly written things that I don't love!

[identity profile] cuddyclothes.livejournal.com 2013-01-28 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Like yarroway, I don't read football fics (although I do occasionally read yours). This is a fascinating list!

How about getting into a fandom that's not so invested in hot, sweaty men doing athletic stuff?

...forget I said that.
ext_471285: (Default)

[identity profile] flywoman.livejournal.com 2013-01-28 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much for occasionally reading my football fics!

Hahaha, writing about hot, sweaty athletes has been a novel experience for me. Who even knows what fandom I'll fall into next time...

[identity profile] readingrat.livejournal.com 2013-01-29 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
For all it's worth, I think Going Quietly is great. It's a pity I'm not into your other randoms. Or, from my pov, that you and Jezzie have left House MD.
ext_471285: (Default)

[identity profile] flywoman.livejournal.com 2013-01-29 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! "Going Quietly" got an unexpectedly positive response, actually. I was the one going, "Yeesh..."

I don't think I've ever stayed in one fandom for more than a couple of years. I'm not sure if it's because the show goes south and I lose interest or because I start to feel like I don't have anything new to say with those characters. Maybe a little of both.

In the past, several of my favorite authors have migrated en masse to the same new show (e.g., The X-Files to Buffy). It's a pity that this hasn't happened for House M.D. (that I've noticed, anyway).
