I just inhaled the first two seasons of Broadchurch and loved David Tennant playing against type as an obnoxious but heroic S1 Housian character (with what I assume is his native Scottish accent). I see that there's quite a lot of fanfiction out there, but is any of it good?

Come on over to [livejournal.com profile] housemd_what_if to learn more about me and ask me anything that's been on your mind about me/my writing... and while you're there, check out their extensive rec list of what-iffy speculative House fics!

Not too long ago, [livejournal.com profile] daasgrrl hosted an interesting post about the writing process for long fics. By chance, I just stumbled upon the outline of Precautionary Measures that I had emailed to my beta. Written scenes are in regular typeface and unwritten scenes are in italics. As is typical for me, the end was finished long before the beginning!

Title: it's just no good anymore
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] waterpulse
Author: [livejournal.com profile] flywoman
Rating: M
Word Count: ~3500
Warnings: Rough (consensual) sex
Summary: His countrymen have never loved him, but his greatest rival just might. A sequel to one is the loneliest number and no is the saddest experience, but all you really need to know is that this is not a first-time fic.
Author's Notes: Thanks to my beta, [livejournal.com profile] jezziejay, and to my artist, [livejournal.com profile] waterpulse, who produced such wonderful gifs to accompany this fic! Written for [livejournal.com profile] futbal_minibang Round 4.

Nine Worlds

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] indybaggins, I learned that a science fiction/fantasy focused "geek out" convention called Nine Worlds will be held near Heathrow airport next weekend. I'm planning to go! If you are too and would like to meet up, shoot me a PM.

This year, two of my favorite players are leaving their childhood clubs behind. Iker Casillas Fernandez, age 34, has been a goalkeeper for the first team at Real Madrid since 1999 and team captain for five years. Xavi Hernandez Creus, age 35, made his first team debut as a midfielder for FC Barcelona in 1998 and was captain this past season, when his team won all three major tournaments for the second time in Spanish history.

Despite the intense rivalry of their respective clubs, these two men have been friends since they met as teenagers. At times, their mutual esteem and affection have been the glue that holds the Spanish national team together, allowing them to win two European Cups and Spain's only World Cup between 2008 and 2012. Even the Prince of Asturias has recognized this OTP.

<333333333 So much love for these two men, and I wish both of them all the best in this next stage of their respective careers.

Have you read Zilpha Keatley Snyder's Green Sky Trilogy (Below the Root, And All Between, Until the Celebration)? In a lushly drawn world, three teenagers are inducted into the ruling order of their society... and discover that their revered ancestors' great social experiment was not quite as nobly executed as they have always been taught to believe. If you like coming-of-age dystopia novels like The Hunger Games and The Giver, I can highly recommend it.

Title: Apprentice (the Wrapped Around Your Finger remix)
Fandom: Green Sky (Zilpha Keatley Snyder)
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1455
Characters: Natacha Orme (D'ol Nesh-om), OMC
Summary: She had taught him so much in the early years of the expedition. Now it was his turn.
Author’s Notes: This is a remix of Pensing by Transposable_Element for Remix Madness 2015.

It had been so long since I'd written anything that I was really thrilled to participate in this year's Remix event on AO3. Basically, you offer to let other people rewrite one of your stories and get matched with someone willing to write in your fandoms, and vice versa. Right now the authors are being concealed, so I can't tell you what I wrote for a few more days, but I would like to point you towards a couple of fics that were written for me (i.e., inspired by my stories) and also a couple that were just so awesome that I have to tell you about them.

Cloudy, With Hope for the Future (Hungry: The Post-Miracle Remix) - a continuation of my Buffy/Faith Hungry series

Can't Take My Eyes Off of You (the Taylor Swift in Red remix) - a Cameron-centric remix of my House/Wilson fic Can't Take My Eyes Off of You

Like No Business I Know (the Climbing Uphill Remix) - a wonderful Tawny Madison-centric Galaxy Quest one-shot

Just Can’t Kill the Beast (the Green, Green, My Jealous Heart Remix) - a Faith-centric Buffy the Vampire Slayer one-shot

Enjoy!

Reposting this in the hopes that some of my friends and fellow authors will want to take advantage of this opportunity! It's a lot of fun. Last year I wrote two remixes and had one fic remixed.

--

Yes, indeed, It is that time of year again --or, if you want to be accurate, it is slightly later than that time of year again -- but this is no time to focus on details. Remix 2015 is up and running!

Before we direct you to the page, one very important thing to note. angelgazing and I have possibly lost our minds, and are going to try to run this thing without qualifying fandoms, and instead just use the standard AO3 fandom tags. (I know you'll all miss the many, many serious discussions of what fandoms qualify, and just what criteria makes a qualifying fandom qualify, anyway.)

However, this is just a test. It's entirely possible removing qualifying fandoms will just make matching unworkable, in which case, we'll be redoing the whole thing in a couple of weeks. But if it works, it means more people can play, and also that you can be more specific about what fandoms you ask for -- no more signing up for MCU, if all you want to write is Captain America.

Couple things you guys can do to help -- use common sense when you're offering/requesting fandoms. Don't offer something completely obscure, unless you know you've got someone else you can bring along to play. Also, the number of people requesting/offering fandoms will be public as signups are happening, so you can check if you're the only person in a fandom. If it seems like you are, we'd strongly advise changing your signup -- if you don't and we can't match you, you'll just get put straight to the pinch list, and there's not even a guarantee someone there will know your fandom.

Also, the eligibility rule hasn't changed. You can only offer to be remixed in a fandom if you've written either five stories of at least 500 words, or seven stories of at least 100 words in it. And you must offer to remix in at least one fandom you're eligible to be remixed in.

The lack of qualifying fandoms is the only major change from previous years. You can read the rules and FAQ here.

I...think that's all the not fun stuff out of the way. Signups will open next Sunday -- that's May 3 -- and they'll close on May 17. After that, we'll find out if our experiment worked, or if it has, in fact, turned out to be a disaster.

If you've got questions, feel free to comment to this post, or drop us an email at remixredux (at) gmail (dot) com.

Since I can't buy any new books (ha ha), and I am currently rewatching Sherlock BBC, I am asking for everyone's favorite (or the fandom's most celebrated) Sherlock fics. I adore wordstrings' work and have been going through her bookmarks, but I'm sure there's a lot more good stuff out there. And as you probably already know, I'm not picky about pairings or squicked by character death or anything like that - the most important thing is that the fic be really well-written and in-character. Recs for specific fics or authors, or links to rec sites, would be greatly appreciated!

Title: Mi cama es tu cama
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 3958
Warnings: Underage semi-sexual exploration, nothing too explicit
Summary: It doesn't make sense for Leo to leave La Masia for siesta, so naturally he ends up in Cesc's bed. Lionel Messi/Francesc Fábregas/Gerard Piqué bromance/pre-slash, a.k.a. Baby Dream Team romantic friendship problems.
Author’s Notes: Thanks very much to [livejournal.com profile] jezziejay, my faithful beta, and to [livejournal.com profile] uphemism for the amazing, adorable artwork she made to accompany this piece! And thanks to the mods of [livejournal.com profile] futbal_minibang for providing the pressure I needed to set my work aside for a while and write again.
